JACON is pleased to announce the submission guidelines for this year's art show. Artists of every caliber are invited to participate in the event. Please read and follow the guidelines below before submitting your work. Also please note that all entrants to the Art Show, Art Contest, and Art Auction must be convention attendees with a paid 3-day badge.
Please note the art show is in no way to be considered an artist alley or dealers room table. Artists may check up on their work, but may not sit with it and try to sell it to convention guests.
Each artist is allowed to submit up to five pieces of artwork. There is no fee this year, but because of that space is limited so it will be allotted on a first come first serve basis.
This will be the fourth year that we will be asking for art work to be matted, framed or otherwise reinforced. Art work must have a sturdy backing and a way to hang on the wall. If you have any questions about matting or framing please contact the Art Director whose information is available at the bottom of this page and she will aid you to the best of her ability.
All work MUST be your original art. You may submit pieces of existing anime characters, or a scene or situation, but you MAY NOT submit copies of work done by someone else. Additionally, if the work is a print or somehow a copy of your original work, it must be labeled as such. This includes anything that is not "One of a kind".
Any unusual pieces (such as t-shirts, cosplay accessories and other pieces of 3-D art) will be considered on a case-by-case basis prior to set up. Please be aware that the Art Director has the right to refuse entry to any piece of art.
Please do not submit any pieces which may be harmful (i.e. pointy spikes, whirling blades, toxic materials). These pieces will be rejected for entry. Also, we ask that you use your discretion and do not submit needlessly vulgar or explicit artwork as children attend JACON too.
Although we take as much care as possible please note that JACON is not responsible for any art work that may be lost, misplaced, stolen or eaten. That does not mean to say that we will not be watching over your artwork at all times. Visitors to the show will not be permitted to touch any artwork.
Information Needed from Artist for Entry:
All artwork MUST be clearly labeled. Artists will need to fill out a detailed submission form for each individual piece of artwork that they wish to submit to the JACON 2008 Art Show that includes the title, artist name, medium(s), a short description of the artwork (some titles can be misleading to the appearance of the artwork) and the cost/bidding information of every piece entered (if for sale). Please include your personal contact information (i.e. Phone number, Email, and Mailing Address) somewhere on the back of your art or otherwise out of site to the general public. This information should be securely attached to the artwork so we know to whom a specific piece of art belongs.
Be aware that JACON is NOT responsible for the loss of any unlabeled artwork.

Set-up and Presentation of Artwork:
Matted, framed, and otherwise reinforced artwork will be wall mounted for display along with their individual information provided by the artist.
Please be aware that no art may be removed from the Art Show after set-up is complete. If you have an emergency situation, please see the Art Director. Staff members will be on hand to help display your entries.
Biddings:
Individual artists are allowed to submit five pieces of their art to the Art Auction. If you wish to put your art work up for auction, mark for sale in the appropriate space on the art label, including minimum bid price. The minimum bid should be the absolute lowest that you will sell your piece at. If you do not wish to sell your work, please circle NOT FOR SALE on your bid sheet. If an attendee wishes to place a bid for a piece, they will inquire after the piece at the front desk, and a bid will be accepted.
In the event that a piece of art receives more than four bid offers, and the Buy Now price has not been met, the bidding will be paused until the open Art Auction event on Sunday where it will be offered up by an auctioneer to the attendees for further bidding. (See more on the Art Auction below).
“Buy Now”:
All pieces may be marked with a Buy Now price. Buy Now is designed so that a fan that really loves your piece and doesn't want to risk losing it can meet this price and assure that the piece is his/hers. You should set your Buy Now price for an appropriate amount that you would be happy to receive for the piece. If someone meets or exceeds the Buy Now price, the piece will be sold and the buyer will take it with them at that time.
Prints:
Artists may provide prints of their submitted artwork to sell at a flat cost that will be posted with the original art that is on display. These prints will be made available for purchase by attendees at the front table. Any prints that have not been sold by the end of the Art Show will not be included in the Art Auction
Artwork will be included in the Art Auction on Sunday only at the discretion of the Artist. Those pieces with more that four bid offers will be included in the auction if the artist so chooses. If your art has no bids by the conclusion of the Art Show we will offer to try and sell it off at a lower price than your previously recorded minimum bid amount. You are free to reject this offer and reclaim your unsold artwork at the posted retrieval times and location below.
Unsold Art – Retrieval Times and Location:
After the convention, artists may come to pick up their pieces after the Art Auction ends, which will be some time after 2:30pm or 3:00pm. If, for some reason, you can not make it during these times it is your responsibility to make arrangements with the Art Director to retrieve the artwork at another time.
Disclaimer for Unclaimed Art:
All art work that is not reclaimed after the Art Auction and Breakdown will become property of JACON, unless you have made prior arrangements with the Art Director to pick it up at another time. Please make sure you take your artwork home.
